Where the Road Goes Quiet

Project type

Oil on Canvas | 38 x 70 cm | Framed

Date

July 20206

Location

eMalahleni, South Africa

A solitary tree stands beneath the fading warmth of an expansive sky while a narrow road disappears into the South African landscape. The road draws the viewer towards the distant hills, creating a quiet sense of movement, possibility and the unknown.

This painting developed through many layers, revisions and difficult decisions. The road, grasses, horizon and tree were repeatedly adjusted until the landscape found the stillness I was searching for. That gradual process became part of the meaning of the work—a reflection on perseverance, uncertainty and continuing forward without knowing exactly where the road may lead.

The enduring tree acts as a symbol of patience and quiet strength, while the last light of evening brings warmth to the open landscape. Where the Road Goes Quiet invites the viewer to pause at the edge of the journey and imagine what might exist beyond the horizon.
