Three deep-red roses rise from an expansive green landscape, their rich colour creating a striking contrast with the cool blue mountains and open sky beyond. The composition brings together the intimacy of a floral study and the freedom of a distant landscape, allowing the flowers to feel both personal and monumental.

The roses act as symbols of beauty, resilience and quiet strength. Their velvety forms command attention in the foreground, while the softened landscape creates a sense of calm and distance. The meeting of flower and landscape reflects my continuing interest in nature—not simply as something to observe, but as a way of expressing feeling and memory.

Velvet Roses is an earlier work that reveals the beginnings of themes that continue through my current practice: open spaces, natural forms, strong colour contrasts and the emotional presence of a solitary subject within a wider landscape.
